Application Tips
Customise your cover letter.
Do not send a generic letter. Mention AGRA by name. Mention the Gender, Youth and Inclusiveness team. Explain why you care about women’s empowerment and agrifood systems. Give one specific example of something you have done that relates to this work.
Highlight your research skills.
This role involves desk research. If you have written a university paper, conducted a survey, or analysed data, mention it. Be specific about what you did.
Show your organisation skills.
They need someone who can manage trackers, follow up on tasks, and keep documents organised. Give an example of a time you kept a project on track.
Proofread everything.
AGRA is a professional organisation. Spelling mistakes or poor grammar will get your application ignored. Read everything twice. Ask a friend to read it too.
Apply early.
Do not wait for May 1. Apply this week. Many internships close early when they receive enough applications.
What to Expect If You Are Shortlisted
AGRA will contact only shortlisted candidates. If you do not hear back within four weeks after the deadline, assume you were not selected.
If you are contacted, expect:
-
An initial screening call or email
-
Possibly an interview (online or in person)
-
Requests for additional documents or references
Be patient. Large organisations move slowly. But also keep applying to other opportunities while you wait.
